APRIL PIGEON AWARENESS MONTH
PROMOTION CONTEST WINNER ANNOUNCED
We have a winner!
This is the seventh year AU has held the National Pigeon
Awareness Month contest during April. AU members are invited to
compete for the honor of recognition for most sport promotion
presentations during the month-long contest. Entries were
reviewed and a winner was selected.
American Racing Pigeon Union announces with pleasure this
year’s winner, the AU board’s own By Laws Chair, Herb
Cartmell, out of Washington state.
The amazing list of Herb’s accomplishments includes a month
full of activities to promote the sport with civic clubs, youth
groups and charitable organizations. Herb just retired from the
9-5 office grind and fired up his efforts in sport promotion. He
is the mastermind behind the Sky Pilot youth drive. It began as
a local effort and is developing into a national program.
Herb has been a member of the Seattle Sno King Invitational RPC
for 23 years. He has held the offices of President and
Secretary/Treasurer of the club and has served as the AU
National By Laws Chairman for 12 years. He has been featured on
radio and in newspapers. That publicity drew attention of
potential new members and improved public awareness. Herb hooked
up with 4-H in his area and is now influencing a national 4-H
pigeon club effort and network of members in the sport. It is no
surprise that Herb was the 2007 recipient of the AU Rick Phalen
Leadership Award.
Herb will receive the contest prize of a $25 AU gift certificate
and AU polo. Congratulations to Herb for outstanding work and
our deepest gratitude for your selfless contributions.
